The Pharoah Ramese II is here shown smiting his enemies in the famous battle of Kadesh. The many carvings inside his temple, and of his queen, are intact. Sands covered the entrances to the temples in the first centuries, protecting them from invasion from Christians escaping Roman persecution. Sadly, many temple carvings were defaced by these people.
